I’ve seen a lot of amazing things that people do with horses, but some of the most remarkable and memorable are the things I’ve seen teenagers do with their horses. The teen years are uniquely subject to the benefit of idle hours and I mean that in the sense of opportunity. It’s a once in a lifetime chance to fully commit to a sport, or interest unencumbered by the demands of a career, college, or family obligations. Once a young rider has learned enough to be trustworthy and safely independent around horses, a magic window appears. It is the years of independence accompanied by an abundance of time and parental support of a child’s passion. The time + passion equation applied to horses results in numerous permutations of equestrian wow factor. It’s a special time for a horse crazy kid and an irreplaceable experience chock-full of life informing lessons.
